Alfa Electronics a.k.a Ibrahim Alfa Jnr is an Apollonian Chariot Rider with a thousand names.

In the midsts of a triple release with Mille Plateaux, Ibrahim recorded this album for us in early 2024. He has been following a new path of late; a new sound design tool that, while having taken his practice forward, has brought him right back to where he started decades ago. Using new emulations and adaptations of old tools to find a new sound, Ibrahim, as Alfa Electronics, has delivered 15-tracks that demonstrate his secret underground technique.

We, as Becoming, interviewed Ibrahim in our upcoming publication: Issue Two. You can find out a lot more about him, as well as about his releases and so on, in that interview.

The album is available to stream here, and on all streaming services, and the files can be downloaded via Bandcamp.

Bereft of Flesh is être's first 'edition', our line of releases that work with the album/EP format. This is a 5-track edition composed and recorded by Rose Laurel, an anonymous duo who operate collaboratively from two different, undisclosed locations in North America.

Rose Laurel’s ‘Bereft of Flesh’ is the first move in a three-part opening sequence, the first of three prepared declarations. This trio of editions mark the three vertices of the triadic starting position of être: x, y, z. Once being sets out towards becoming, it can no longer be contained or captured, all we can do is ritualise the opening, as if to pray for a safe voyage.

We will be using this first encounter to familiarize ourselves with the terrain, to take position in the field, and to feel the current and the temperature. It’s a beautiful 5-track edition, with some bonuses coming soon—all material recorded by an anonymous duo in a digital collaboration, but make no mistake, this edition has »a lot« of life in its breath.

Despite sitting on a lot of work, we were not really ready to open ÊT/RE as a label yet. Amongst the releases planned, we were lucky enough to be the recipient of a recording from Sukkube based in Toulouse, which was to be one of our first releases.

Sukkube had expressed an interest from the beginning in using the recording as an opportunity to raise funds for people in Gaza, an initiative that we fully-support and agreed to implement. Yet, despite lagging behind with the label due to a lot of work going on over at Becoming Press, Sukkube reminded us that while we are fiddling with the virtual infrastructure, people in Palestine are still enduring excruciating conditions. The minimum we can do is interrupt our own schedules and open ÊT/RE early so that this recording can be heard and the funds can be raised. It was decided that we would use the next upcoming Bandcamp Friday on May 3rd 2024 to release this recording, in order for the full amount of any donation to be delivered to the chosen organization, namely the Association France Palestine Solidarité.

The recording has been named "Forget Me Not", as during the process of creating the artwork, we landed on just the right combination of blending options, the harsh yellow-red lines that carve up the skyline over Gaza transform into delicate blue flowers, dried and pressed. The transformation of weaponry into this particular flower with this particular name captures quite the sentiment — we cannot forget these people. In a passage in Becoming's book, Dialogues on CoreCore, Dana Dawud writes about the imagery that is erupting out of Palestine, the captured faces of suffering people, immortalised. For this reason, as an additional incentive we will be giving away some copies of this book to some of those who will participate in this fundraiser. The selection of the winners will be random.
